The jury heard evidence that the motel clerk was required to work double and triple shifts at the front desk of the motel. The motel illegally paid the clerk on an per diem basis rather than an hourly rate at time and a half for every hour worked over 40 per week.
The motel also illegally deducted food and lodging from the clerk’s wages. This claim was brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
